This is the easiest and most flavorful focaccia recipe out there! Focaccia is one of my favorite breads! It is a classic Italian flatbread that has a crispy exterior that balances the lightness of the interior crumb perfectly.
Ingredients:
4 cups of all purpose flour
1 and 2/3 cups of warm water
1 1/4 tbsp of yeast
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup of good quality olive oil(plus more for greasing the bowl, pan, and drizzling the bread)
Rosemary and cherry tomatoes or any other toppings such as basil, eggplant, onions, cheese, etc.
1 tbsp of sea salt for topping the bread
Directions:
Start by mixing warm water , yeast , and sugar in a bowl and leave them for 10 minutes until they get foamy and bubbles start to appear.
Then in a stand mixer or another larger bowl place the flour , salt , and olive oil.
As you're mixing the flour , gradually add in the yeast-water mixture until a dough ball starts forming.
Sprinkle some flour onto your working surface and start kneading the dough for about 10 minutes until its firm(you can stop kneading the dough when you press your finger against the dough and it rises back to the surface)
Place the dough back into a bowl that has been greased with a table spoon of olive oil.
Cover the dough and allow to rest for 1 hour so it can double in size .
While your dough is resting prepare your toppings and grease your baking pan with more olive oil and a sprinkle of sea salt.
Once the dough rests transfer it into your baking pan and spread the dough as far as you can (the dough will spread more once we let it rise for the second time so it does not ave to cover all the pan)
Now cover your baking pan and allow it to rest for another 1 hour .
Lastly , drizzle some more olive oil onto the surface of the risen dough and start creating little holes through out the bread using your finger tips.
Add your toppings of choice and a sprinkle of more sea salt and bake for 20-25 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius until the bread develops a golden crispy exterior.
Bon Appétit!
NOTE: This bread is perfecter dipping into some oil and balsamic vinegar .
